About “Cucumber Cool”
What does one do when they’re cool as a cucumber? They write a song about it, of course! So that’s what Tachichi did for his 2014 project with DJ and producing partner Gordski. Previously only released on Bandcamp for a limited time, the duo drop for streaming their second single from Felt Lovejoy in celebration of the 10 year anniversary of the original EP. Tachichi breaks down what makes him cucumber cool with a hard, braggadocio battle rap and a “surgical flow” over a crunchy Gordski beat, while Yasmeen Borden and Jay O Smooth join him for the catchy chorus. The latter also provides back ups on the verses. “Cucumber Cool” as described by T, more truthfully now than ever before, is “future funk that’s fashionably late.”
Written and performed by Tachichi
Additional vocals by Yasmeen Borden and Jay O Smooth
Produced by Gordski
About Tachichi
Tachichi is a Halifax hiphop legend whose resume is as superb and as big as his talent, with his fingers in everything from writing to production to video directing. Tachichi has released more than a dozen albums to date and played hundreds of live shows across Canada and the U.S. While much of his previous catalogue has been alongside Canadian producer and DJ Moves over the last 20 years, Tachichi has also released music with just about every influential and celebrated hip hop artist from the land of the maple leaf, including Buck 65, Classified, Quake Matthews, Ghettosocks, Skratch Bastid, Snak the Ripper, and countless others. Tachichi’s attention is currently focused on his new powerhouse rap crew, Sipset, which he co-founded with Ghettosocks.
About Gordski
Originally a founding member of veteran Halifax hip hop group Hip Club Groove, leaving before the release of their first album, Gordski would go on to drop solo instrumentals, produce for a number of local MCs, and find further fame as the production/DJ half of the rap duo The Goods alongside MC Kunga219. Formed in 1996, they released five albums between 1997 and 2006. They also combined with Tachichi for the trio Roosevelt Tharpa to release an album in 2003 and the three of them plus Scratch Bastid and Kaleb Simmonds released their sampler album Goodnight Musics Presents just prior. Since the release of the last album from The Goods, Gordski has been producing DJ edits and remixes, DJing, and continues to collaborate occasionally with Tachichi. He is also knowns to release the rare rap replete with witty wordplay and hilarious punchlines. Rumour has it Gordski is still working on material with Kunga219, which will hopefully result in another album from The Goods someday.
